I can get the game sound to come out of my computer.
There is a slider that seems to be able to adjust the game volume, but even if I move the volume slider of the desktop audio left or right, I cannot change the game volume.

I’ll show you how to make the sound louder or quieter with the volume slider in the [Mixer].

To adjust the volume with the slider, first select【Video Capture Device】in【Source】and click on the gear icon (or right-click on the name of the video capture device and select【Properties】).

In this example, we have changed the name of the video capture device to Switch, so select Switch and click the gear icon.
Open the properties of the video capture device (compatible with your game console).

Change the audio output mode in the video properties to [Capture audio only].

The [Audio Output Mode] should be set to [Desktop Audio Output (WaveOut)] and the [Audio Device] should be set to your capture board.

I moved the slider for [Desktop Audio] in [Mixer] all the way to the right, but the volume meter did not move.
Instead, the volume gauge of the switch that is the video capture device started to move.
Change [Desktop Audio Output (WaveOut)] to [Capture Audio Only].

In the Advanced Audio Properties, change Audio Monitoring to [Monitor and Output

Next, click on the gear icon in any of the [Mixer], and open the [Audio Advanced Properties].

The volume meters for all switches, desktop audio, and microphones in the [Mixer] are working.

The volume output from the computer can be adjusted by moving the volume slider of the switch (video capture device) left or right.

Moving the [Desktop Audio] slider did not allow me to adjust the volume from the computer.
If you change the settings above, you can adjust the volume of the computer with the mixer knob of the video capture device linked to the game console.
Change [Audio Monitoring] from [Monitor Off] to [Monitor and Output].

I just changed the [Audio Monitoring] corresponding to the game console from [Monitor Off] to [Monitor and Output] in the [Advanced Audio Properties].

For special situations where you don’t want your viewers to hear the game sound, select [Monitor only (output muted)] for [Audio Monitoring].

Then slide the desktop audio knob in the [Mixer] of the OBS main window to the left (to set the volume to zero).

Also, if the default microphone device built into your computer is still functioning, it will pick up the sound coming from your computer, so slide the [Microphone] knob in the [Mixer] to the left and set it to zero as well.
With the above settings, you can create a situation where only you can hear the sound, the audience cannot hear the sound, and no sound is left on the recording.

To try it out, let’s try recording while playing a game and shouting.
Change the setting from [Monitor and Output] to [Monitor only (output is muted)].

Supplemental noise
When you watch the recorded video, you may find that some microphones have noises or daily life sounds (such as a whirring sound) mixed in.
You can reduce the noise to some extent by using the audio filter function that is available from the beginning in OBS, so you might want to try it if you are worried about the environmental noise in your video.

When you have connected the capture board to the game console and monitor, and are about to transfer the game screen using OBS, you may run into a problem where you cannot hear the game sound.
The answer is to change the “Audio Output Mode” to “Desktop Audio (WaveOut)”.

Check [Use custom audio device].
Select a capture board from [Audio Device].
Change [Audio Output Mode] to [Desktop Audio Output (Waveout)].

Why I can’t hear the game sound even though the microphone volume meter is working?
